SPRING 2002 Look' s & hair Styles our 1 & 2 Choices ....Whats your ???
Spring has two faces. Bronzed glamazons made a bold beauty statement for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and others with tossed hair, tanned faces and pale lips.
- Heavy bangs, like Liliana's at Clements Ribeiro.
- Soft or severe, face-framing braids, like Anouck's at Christian Lacroixe.
Blame it on Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. As these pouty pop divas blaze through the top 10 in their navel-baring tees and painted-on hip-huggers, a teenage-inspired fashion riot has broken out on the catwalks. Designers from Karl Lagerfeld to Marc Jacobs have gone for skimpy tops, down-and-dirty denim and youth club-friendly
Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza, January 15, 2002 Hong Kong, renowned as the fashion capital of Asia, is undisputedly a major source for innovative ideas.
From cornrows at Jean Paul Gaultier's Indian-inspired collection to soft, face-framing plaits at Christian Lacroix, braids were the big news in hair this Spring. Vidal Sassoon's Eugene Souleiman, who was responsible for the braids at Dries Van Noten, Viktor & Rolf and Yohji Yamamoto, among others, worked on a "world hair theme," taking inspiration from African, American Indian, Mexican and other cultures, and updating the looks to be "a mix of strict, elegant, ornate and textured hair." Clearly, Pippi Longstocking plaits are a thing of the past.
– Strappy shoes that lace and buckle up the leg were in plentiful supply on the Spring runways. In New York, Alice Roi shod her models (styled with Princess Leia braids under hunters' caps) in buckled gladiator sandals. In Paris, John Galliano at Christian Dior showed boot-like skin shoes, complete with ankle guards, buckles and compartments designed for Motorola-wielding urban commandos. Things took a more feminine turn at Christian Lacroix, Jill Stuart and Antonio Berardi, where suede lace-ups sprouted Pegasus-like foliage at the heel. It was Julio Espada at Pucci, however, who took the boldest step. His "emperor's new shoes" slip over the ball of the foot and lace up, adorning the leg while leaving the feet mostly bare.
Those platform are one level higher come Spring 2002., so go into your closets and grap those 70's shoes and dust them off. Eclectic and romantic are the two watchwords for Spring 2002 accessories.
Backstage at the Spring shows, there were so many models sporting so many distinctive T-shirts, you'd think they had just rolled off some kind of production line. (Though only the most fabulous of factories could have turned out such an array of products—tie-dyed, sloganed, customized with chains, pins and fringe.) Highlights? Jacquetta Wheeler backstage at Yohji Yamamoto, sporting her new D&G I love New York tee; and avid football fan Bridget Hall showing up at John Galliano in a blue-and-silver Dallas Cowboys top, before slipping into a pinstriped, Tex-Mex suit in which to slink down the runway.
- Designers engaged in a sophisticated game of peek-a-boo this Spring, staging mini peep shows with dresses, tops and skirts that bared bits of skin but still left something to the imagination. How much depended on the designer in question. While Viktor & Rolf's fabric-tied sleeves exposed small patches of arm in a playful reference to medieval costume, Alexander McQueen scooped out generous, midriff-baring swaths that left more flesh exposed than covered up.
